Dublin City Hall Weddings

February 23, 2021

Dublin’s historic City hall is the ideal place to celebrate your wedding. With the capacity to seat up to 200 guests it really is a spectacular place to get married. The main stage for your vows will be the breathtaking Rotunda rotunda room with its exquisitely ornate domed ceiling, sure to wow your guests. I’m a Dublin Wedding Photographer and I have shot dozens of weddings at City Hall and it really is unmatchable for grandeur and WOW factor for wedding ceremonies in Dublin City.

Here are some of my favourite shots taken at Dublin City Hall over the years.

Location

Dublin City Hall is located on Dame Street right in the centre of Dublin City.

Parking

There is no parking available at City Hall but there are multiple car parks available very close by, including the Park-Rite on Drury St (7 minute walk) and the Q-Park Christchurch (4 minute walk).

How much does it cost to book City Hall for a wedding?

The cost of getting married in Dublin City Hall, as of February 2021, is €1250. A €550 deposit is required to secure your booking. The balance of €700 will be due 30 days prior to your wedding.

How long do we get City Hall for?

You will have use of City Hall for three hours in total.

What do we get when we book Dublin City Hall?

  • Three hour use of City Hall.
  • One hour prior to ceremony to dress room.
  • Chairs laid out by staff.
  • P.A. system for amplification and music. (Phone can be plugged in for music)
  • Antique Table and chairs for celebrant & wedding couples.
  • An escort for arrival of bride/groom/partner
  • (optional) one hour drinks reception following ceremony.

Can we have a drinks reception & canapes after the ceremony?

Yes. City Hall will provide you with catering menus in order to have a drinks reception following your ceremony. Typically the reception will take place on the east wing of City Hall, with lots of gorgeous natural light flooding through the large windows.

Where to take family portraits?

The west wing of City Hall is absolutely perfect for bridal party and family portraits. It’s one of my favourite locations for family photos in the country!

Is City Hall suitable for a group shot?

If you have plenty of time it is relatively easy to setup a group photo at City Hall of your entire wedding party. I usually stand on the staircase of the west wing while the crowd is gathered. For a 100 person wedding party it should typically take no more than 15 minutes to get everyone ready. Usually the staff of City Hall will be able to help round up your guests for this.

How do I make my City Hall wedding special?

Decoration

You will have up to one hour to fully dress City Hall with flowers, candles etc. But you really don’t need to do anything as the venue is so incredibly stunning as it is. It does the work for you! To quote specifically from City Hall’s own wedding brochure: “From elegant aisle markers to fragrant bouquets of your favourite flowers, the Rotunda room can be turned into a unique and exquisite reflection of your personal style. From the moment you step through the ornate balustrades that frame City Hall, you will be immediately enveloped by the splendour and grandeur of your surrounds.”

Music

You could organise some live music for the ceremony. I’ve heard string quartets, opera singers, singer-songwriters, ukulele combos – the lot! The acoustics are absolutely beautiful as they are but you will also have use of a PA system too. If you’d rather just plug your phone in and use a Spotify playlist for music you can do that too.

My personal favourite Ceremony musician in Dublin city is Doug Sheridan.

Catering

Upon booking, City Hall will provide you with a list of approved vendors who have previously catered weddings at the venue. Your drinks reception will usually be held in the East wing.

Meg & Niall’s Stylish Dublin City Wedding was one of my favourites of 2020. Also, as featured on One Fab Day, check out Laura & Stephen’s beautiful wedding.
